Whoa, it has been way too long since we last posted.
CAUTION: excuse to follow. the busy Resurrection Sunday weekend. Hmmm. Lame. Our 365 plan was to do something
everyday that is creative. Well. We did. sort of. I worked on taking in and re-working a wool coat and making a black lace prom dress. Does that count? Mother has been painting clay pots and has just finished re-potting the african violets into them. Does that count? On Sunday-- for dinner table "place cards" we boiled eggs, used a white crayon on the dry, hard-boiled surface to write each person's initals and then dipped them in blue food color added to a bit of H
20 and vinegar. That seems rather creative. All of these are what sorts of things have intervened since we picked our frame: "verse" and had charming Daughter add her bit to it by giving us a theme we had to use. Since the day of the selection of our frame was her birthday, she said: "the theme of your verse should be 'birth' " So here are the results:
Mom has been learning and practicing the uncial alphabet. She wants to re-do this piece (un-happy with spacing, etc.) I think it is great!!
My piece is very plain. It is practice of the basic italic alphabet I am learning in a 5 week class taught by the amazing calligrapher, Bridget Smith. (see and buy her work at Pottery Place Plus, downtown Spokane in Auntie's Bookstore.)
Looking at this I know there is a long way to go until I have mastered italic!
Karyn, this looks great! It's always great to practice on a real project, we seem to take it more seriously than letters in a line! You are making great progress. I'm looking forward to our next class together (and to a great weekend in Seattle)!
ReplyDeleteNice page young lady. It looks great. THANKS so much for showing the girls your work when we stopped by. That was GREAT.
