1) I continue with calligraphy classes with Bridget-- learning the italic alphabet. Oh, my is that a hard one! Deceptively simple. (I am not putting up a photo until I feel more confident...maybe next week after our last class and I have the project Bridget says we will do that day. Hmmm)
2) We created race cars for the Pinewood Derby staged by the Cadets group at church (equivalent of Boy Scouts---they have divisions for non-Cadets to make and race cars.) Mom won second place for most beautiful car in the adult section. She also beat the sox off of me in the races, although we were both outdone by a little red wedge built and raced by the Ulmer team. (They planned to make it a doorstop after the race, but since it was such a winner, I suspect it will hold an honored place on the mantel or shelf)

mine is purple -I'm proud of the flames, ashamed of the finish- next year it is spray paint for gloss and smooth |

Mom's has carving to define the shapes-she discovered my wood carving tools left the red paint on the teeth ..."that's blood!" She's way more competetive than I would have guessed |
3) created fruit pizza for Bible Study treats when it was Beloved Spouse's and my turn to host. This project probably isn't quite a qualifier since this isn't a food blog. But I am trying to show my very talented Daughter that I am somewhat capable in the kitchen. (She has me beat by miles in that department, in spite of what I would have expected while she was growing up---whodathunk??)

4) YARD work. Mom has nearly completed the hardscape work of making our back yard beautiful. She is out finishing up under the steps that go down from the deck. I spent a few days running amok at the nursery and then planting ...and re-planting in the flower beds she created. The little fences with crinoline clothespinned in place is to shade plants that are not tolerant of the hot afternoon sun. I didn't realize they were in such jeopardy when I planted them and so now must move them when the berm we (Mom, Spouse and I) will be creating next weekend is ready. So all that is to say, our yard isn't ready for the cover of Better Homes and Gardens, "but someday!" she said, hopefully.

None of these tell of sewing for customers, working on VBS prepartions, going to recitals, graduations and birthdays. Ok, and there is laundry, dishes, meals, you know.... all of the things that ace out un-adorned creativity but that are to be part of a creative way of living. That aspect of "The Creative Life" is hard to cultivate. It is easy to get bogged down and keep one's sights at a strictly utilitarian level. sigh.
Our plan is to return to our jar of slips soon. I think we are getting some of these big things launched and are nearly ready to return to the daily dose of creativity. Thanks for looking in again and go create something! :-)
I like this post! Gardening and food always get me. Later in the summer you should update on the garden and put in some before pictures of the drab spot you have turned into such a nice patio and flower bed.
